We Do This By . . .

Inserting a dose of healthy skepticism into everything we do. In a word, we question almost everything! This makes us the very best learners you will find around!

Being the best learners empowers us to be the best teachers, and implementers of tested and tried concepts & principles from some of the world’s most renowned teachers in the field(s) of work, performance & efficiency, personal growth, and technology, to create a truly different group of people who work at a different level to their peers in the marketplace.

We understand that what makes a tech professional is not only his/her ability to write code, or solve IT problems, but in their creativity, their attitude, their enthusiasm for their work, and countless other non-tangible attributes.

Breaking The Stereotype. Elevating The Continent

Technology is definied in the dictionary as “the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment”. By its very definition, technology has to do with knowledge and its application to the world around us. By its very nature technology is about giving back to the world around us. For Africans, the world around us IS AFRICA! Our goal is to infuse everyday Africans with a new vision, new skills, and a new paradigm through which to solve the continent’s most pressing problems, first by using their minds, then employing technology.

Attempting to solve these problems as a standalone company would be foolish. But empowering everyday people in the millions to bring change to their nations, virtually guarantees the elevation of Africa, and her nations.

Our Core Values

Our values quite literally guide everything that we do. Everything from the type of people we hire, to how we deal with our clients. Some of these values were borne out of the change we’ve seen in our lives when we’ve implemented them, and others were borne out of pain that we don’t believe should be the norm, but each value has a story behind it! We’ve chosen words from different cultures to attempt to capture the depth of meaning, and specificity of some of what we believe, but also because we celebrate diversity, difference and divergence!

Excellence | Attention To Detail

We strive to achieve excellence in everything we do. Our curriculum is designed to train individuals on how to take a different approach to problem solving. This is unique in that our employees are then able to anticipate client needs from a different angle, which would not be found using conventional methods. We choose excellence over perfection, as we understand that perfection limits people but excellence is limitless and progressive. At Divergent, we are constantly evolving and believe that there is always room for attaining greater excellence. We take pride in delivering the best service as well as the best quality of character.

Humanity | Kindness

We acknowledge that our purpose is bigger than just profit making and that in order to make the change which we seek, we must be sensitive to the people and environment around us. We not only value human connections but we invest in them. We have found that the best way to attain excellence is by genuinely caring about the professional and personal lives of our business’ stakeholders. We know that the only way to be enlightening and transformational is by being grounded in strong values and focusing on the personal care and support of others.
Gezellig
Relationships | Fun | Connection

Originating from the Netherlands, the word derives from "gezel" meaning companion or friend. Gezellig describes the feeling of coziness and togetherness you get when you surround yourself with people, places and things that are comforting, relaxing and good for the soul. At Divergent, we actively invest in that time! We work hard, but we also play hard, we make time to invest in the simplicity of human connections and fun. We understand that 70% of our lives are spent at work, we want to make at least some of that 70% meaningful and impactful for the rest of our lives!

Our Key Learning Areas

Our consultants are well trained in their specific (tech) area of expertise, However what makes us different is that we know from experience that the qualities most managers and employers look for, almost always tend to be attributes classed as attitudes and not skill, so while we brush up our consultant’s technical skills, there is a huge focus on training them in more “attitude based” skills, skills that can only be developed by promoting deep understanding, and real life practice. Below are the 5 key areas (broadly speaking) we focus on, outside of technology skills.

  • Software Development
  • Vision & Meaning
  • Learning Styles
  • Communication
  • Problem Solving

Software Development

Our consultants will be trained in the technology based skills that are most pertinent to their prospective role.

For some, this will be a set of programming languages, for others it will be learning to manage and manipulate databases, while still for others they will be trained in managing servers and the access to those servers, and in some cases, we will train/retrain an individual in all of these skills, all depending on what their role/the client requires.

Vision & Meaning

What do vision and meaning have to do with work, you ask? Well . . . a lot, it turns out! Having an employee with skills, but without vision and a sense that what they do matters to them (meaning) is like having a Ferrari without fuel in it. You can’t take it out of your house!

Not only do we actively help individuals that we recruit connect their personal vision and natural motivations to the work that they do, we teach them how to constantly “refill their tank“.

Learning Styles

Many have been tricked into believing that they are stupid where learning and work are concerned.

Some of the most brilliant minds the world has seen (Einstien for example), were almost always  called some variation of the word stupid. Hint: At the time they didn’t know or understand their unique learning style. We free people to reach their true potential, by unlocking their superpower, Learning! All the while harnessing the way their mind functions, as opposed to imposing a particular way of learning on them.

Communication

We cover everything from one on one communication, reading body language, to emotional intellegence.
Anyone that goes through our processes must grow in their communication skills.

Whether it be their ability to make a presentation to a room of 100 people, explain a technical concept to a co-worker, or whether it be handling a difficult situation with their superior. We teach our consultants (through practical means) how to navigate various relational circumstances.

Creative Problem Solving

Creative problem solving for us is something we have fun teaching, because everyone has the capacity to do it. It encapsulates the core of what we are about at Divergent; Thinking out of the box!

We want everyone who comes through our system to be freed in their thinking to solve problems effectively, but in radical ways, we actually encourage “strange” thinking and actively harness it through practical and regular brain exercises and real life problem solving!
